Directors of Deception is a particularly effective tactic used to manufacture credibility. In this scheme, an entity creates a “board of directors” using online platforms, listing individuals in name only without any legitimate appointment or supporting documentation. The names may be real, but they carry no verified authority or formal connection to the organization.

This approach is designed to project strength, structure, and legitimacy at a glance. In reality, it is often nothing more than a carefully constructed illusion. Without verifiable records, filings, or documented roles, the so-called board exists only to mislead—giving the appearance of governance where none truly exists.
